Understanding Manglik Dosha

Manglik Dosha forms when Mars occupies the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house. Because Mars governs energy, drive and conflict, these placements are said to add heat and friction to married life.

But the dosha is one of the most over-diagnosed ideas in Vedic astrology. Classical texts define numerous cancellations — Mars in its own sign or exalted, Jupiter’s aspect, both partners being Manglik — and the true measure of a marriage is the 7th house and its lord, not Mangal Dosha read alone.

Frequently asked questions

What is Manglik Dosha?

Manglik Dosha (also called Mangal or Kuja Dosha) forms when Mars sits in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house of the birth chart. It is traditionally associated with friction or delay in marriage.

How do you check if someone is Manglik?

Classically Mars is counted from the Ascendant; common practice also checks from the Moon and from Venus. This tool reports all three and flags you Manglik if any of them place Mars in a Manglik house.

Can Manglik Dosha be cancelled?

Yes — there are many cancellations: both partners being Manglik, Mars in its own sign or exalted, Jupiter aspecting or conjunct Mars, marrying after 28, and a strong 7th house. Manglik Dosha is over-diagnosed and should never be read in isolation.

Is being Manglik bad for marriage?

Not on its own. Roughly 40–50% of charts carry some form of it. The real indicator of marital ease is the overall condition of the 7th house, its lord, and Venus/Mars — not Mangal Dosha alone.
